About the clinic

Situated within the Charterhouse clinic in the heart of Marylebone, our clinic has been fitted to the highest standard possible, creating a calming and therapeutic environment. At Integrated Manual Medicine, we have a passion for the ongoing well-being of our patients. Rather than simply treating pain symptoms repetitively over your visits, we look beyond your presenting complaint and try to identify what is causing your body’s pain and dysfunction. For example, it may be a combination of postural problems, repetitive strain or micro trauma. We would provide knowledge on how you can combat the recurrence of pain beyond the clinic with the goal of achieving ongoing whole-body health. This is our commitment to treating the causes of pain for long term and ongoing relief, not just temporary relief of symptoms. By working in tandem together the treatment session draws on the experience of both practitioners to achieve a global approach to treatment thereby making a more effective use of time, speeding up recovery and healing. This ensures that treatment can be tailored to the specific needs of the patient. With both practitioners working on the patient at the same time, the tissues causing the patient pain and the associated maintaining factors can both be eased. This makes for a more efficient system of diagnosis and treatment in one session. This also includes acupuncture, lifestyle, exercise and rehabilitation advice as well as referral to allied health professions. We provide acupuncture a traditional therapy in which fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body to alleviate various symptoms or conditions in conjunction with manual medicine techniques. Conditions treated include most types of chronic/acute, musculoskeletal pain from trauma, repetitive strain and postural issues. Patients range from professional sports people, office/manual workers, postural and emotionally related stress, sports injury issues and age-related complaints.

Western medicine provides additional perspectives, suggesting that acupuncture may work by stimulating the nervous system, releasing endorphins (natural painkillers), and increasing blood flow to targeted areas. This can help reduce pain, inflammation, and stress. The Acupuncture Procedure Consultation: A session typically begins with a consultation to assess the patient's health condition, medical history, and specific concerns. Preparation: The patient lies down in a comfortable position, and the acupuncturist selects the appropriate acupoints for treatment. Needle Insertion: Thin, disposable needles are gently inserted into the skin at these acupoints. The sensation varies from person to person but is usually minimal and may feel like a slight tingling or dull ache. Stimulation: The needles may be gently twirled, or mild electrical pulses may be applied to enhance the therapeutic effect. Relaxation: The needles are left in place for about 15-30 minutes while the patient relaxes. Removal: The needles are carefully removed, and the session concludes. Benefits of Acupuncture Pain Relief: Effective for various types of pain, including chronic back pain, arthritis, migraines, and menstrual cramps. Stress Reduction: Promotes relaxation and reduces stress and anxiety levels. Improved Sleep: Can help alleviate insomnia and improve sleep quality. Enhanced Immune Function: May boost the immune system and increase overall well-being. Digestive Health: Addresses digestive issues such as nausea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and gastritis. Hormonal Balance: Helps regulate hormonal imbalances, including those related to menopause and fertility. Safety and Considerations Qualified Practitioners: Ensure treatment is provided by a licensed and experienced acupuncturist. Side Effects: Generally minimal, but may include minor bruising, soreness, or lightheadedness. Contraindications: Certain conditions, such as bleeding disorders or the use of blood thinners, may require special precautions. Acupuncture is a holistic approach to health and wellness that can complement conventional medical treatments. It offers a natural and non-invasive option for managing various health issues and enhancing overall quality of life.
