Founded in 2021 by Lucy Humphries, Appleyard Acu is a forward-thinking clinic dedicated to helping people feel better throughout life’s ups and downs.
My decision to become an Acupuncturist was not instantaneous, it followed a twisting path. In my mid-thirties I seemingly had life on track with a loving husband, an interesting career, two fantastic young children, supportive parents, great friends, fulfilling hobbies – the lot! I was lucky, “#blessed” even?! Then my world turned upside down, my wonderful parents simultaneously died and in the space of one day nothing looked the same to me.
I had been working in London for over a decade as an Environmental Consultant, prior to that I had been studying hard to gain a BSc. & MSc., in-between travelling the world. I cared deeply about the environment and how we could reduce human impacts upon it (I still do!). Following the sudden trauma I could barely function, continuing with my career wasn’t an option. I never returned to the city office.
The trauma, loss and anguish I suffered manifested in me emotionally, mentally and physically triggering sleep problems, mood problems and hormonal changes – my entire system, my microcosm, was sent spinning off kilter. I needed help. With hard work, care and support I began to heal. I educated myself in psychology, participated in talking therapy and had lots of Acupuncture! The acupuncture treatments set me at ease, released blocked tensions & emotions, reduced pain and re-balanced my system, this allowed me to rest and restore. I slowly began to feel like myself again, it took time but I felt better and better.
Once I was feeling well enough, I wondered how I could to make a positive impact on the world again? I realised I was determined to train to become an Acupuncturist myself in order to help others heal and feel better – so here I am! I believe we all have the ability to help ourselves heal sometimes we simply need a little assistance and care. I also think good health is a positive state rather than merely the absence of illness or pain. I am dedicated to helping others feel better by finding their root cause. My philosophy is to treat the whole person encouraging healing from the inside out to promote a healthy body, mind and soul. Western Medicine is of course essential for some conditions and where this is the case an integrative approach can garner more positive outcomes for patients.
In 2016 my family moved away from the London commuter belt to live in a peaceful rural Wiltshire village (where I grew up) situated on a small holding. Here we have ponies, chickens, ducks (appleyards!) and grow lots of our own fruit and vegetables. The Appleyard Acu clinic is situated overlooking our apple orchard, where you will be welcomed very warmly and you too can start to feel better.
