Acupuncture Regulatory Authority
Acupuncture is generally very safe. Serious side effects are very rare – less than one per 10,000 treatments. Drowsiness can occur after treatment in a small number of patients and, if affected, you are advised not to drive. Nausea may occur with certain acupuncture points at the first treatment although this may only last a few minutes. Minor bleeding or bruising can occur during or after treatment (in about 3% of treatments). Occasionally fainting can occur in certain patients, particularly at the first treatment. Single-use, sterile, disposable needles are always used in this practice. If you are a blood donor you may wish to book with Jolene who is registered as a Health Care Professional and no period of deferral is needed for blood donation if acupuncture is adminstered by her. A blood donor letter can also be provided.
